I wouldn't have thought the production run for the French would have been long enough/large enough for much variation - I'll see what Mercaldo has to say!

I will see what I can dig up on Remington production - Rolling Block military rifles (and presumably bayonets) in various calibres were supplied to quite a number of countries in the late 19th and early 20th Century - most (I think!) had a shorter bladed bayonet but I wonder if one of the other contracts (perhaps to Latin America?) had longer bladed versions too. Looking at the quillon on mine there is no obvious evidence of shaping/bending (ie all the lines are regular and there are no obvious flats which you sometimes see with shaping) but at the same time as you say obvious differences in blade too. I always new there 2 different maker name 'stampings', but I didn't realise there were other manufacturing differences until now. Also check the different blade 'runout' near the ricasso and fuller end shaping, which suggests different manufacturing plant or process. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.īe sure of your target and what is beyond it.Hmmm, looking into this a bit more, and maybe there is some manufacturing variation going on here.? I note your example is a Remington Arms - UMC whilst mine in the photo (and which I just checked in the drawer) is a plain vanilla Remington Arms, Ilion, NY variety.
